Phu Phan Rajaniwet Palace,Sakon Nakhon,Thailand

The Phu Phan Rajaniwet Palace,Sakon Nakhon,Thailand sits in the foothills of the Phu Phan just a few minutes south of Sakon Nakhon on Route 213 enroute to Kalasin. It is a simple affair that makes me feel thrown back to the 50s and 60s in suburban Amaerica. Nothing on a grand scale here just comfortable and shady. It is open to the public when there is no member of the Royal Family in residence, which seems to be most of the time. Without any Thai you will be at a bit of a loss trying to find what’s what on the campus. My best visit was tagging along with a group of cadets there on a tour. If you are in the area or travelling between Sakon Nakhon and Kalasin it is certainly worth a visit, or if you are staying in Sakon Nakhon it is a nice quiet way to cool offf and enjoy some beautiful gardens on a hot day.

I think it has been quite a few years since the King himself has enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere at the Phu Phan Rajaniwet Palace, but no reason for the simple folk to enjoy the graounds.
