From Mukdahan to Ubon Ratchatani, Follwing the Mekhong River.

Remember to buy petrol the night before you leave as stations in town are not always open early, although now a days north of town the PTT is pretty much a 24/7 operation. I always try to get to Phu Pha Thoep to watch the sunrise. Now is the time the river levels start to drop and the Kaengs and Haads become visible (rapids and beaches). There are a few along the way to Kemmarat, but really get numerous in Ubon Ratchatani Province. And more and more are being sign-posted along the way. Most of the road has been improved, but there are still sections that are potholed pretty bad.Another great source of information in the Ubon Ratchatani area is The Thai Report, plenty of maps and places of interest. More and more along the way are places to spend the night and a fair few off river places to visit. Winter is surely the time to enjoy the section of Isaan.
