Brooker Creek Preserve, Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County, Florida

“At approximately 8700 acres, Brooker Creek Preserve is the largest natural area in Pinellas County. It consists primarily of forested wetlands and pine flatwoods. Bordered by dense urban development, the Preserve provides both a unique refuge for native flora and fauna as well as an opportunity for citizens to explore the natural beauty of wild Florida.”
This is yet another local site that is well documented on both the brochure and website. There was 1 piece of information totally missing that ;oca;s might be aware of, and then might not…..

and that is the need for bug spray, insect repellent on the trails. I arrived unarmed and quit before I saw everything I had hoped to see.

Also it turns out the Visitor Center and the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center are one in the same hence the visitor center is only open Thursday through Saturday.

It is certainly worth a visit if in the area, even between Sunday and Wednesday.
