Free Thai Movement and More Heroes from Isaan, Northeast Thailand

mapHere I am forcing these old eyes to try to research more about the Free Thai Movement that took place in Isaan after the Thai  Government kissed Jap ass. Or as a Thailand’s Nearly English Language Dailies would say were forced to capitulate. one  of the names I am interested in, in relation to the free thai movement and communist movement in the 70s are mentioned,Khrong Chandawong, also mentioned Tieng Sirikhan whose name and likeness I have already come across in my searches.

Not only does the Thailand’s Nearly English Language Dailies, in This case ply a bit lose with facts, but even during the war the road from Udon to Sakon Nakhon, though dirt, was a major route in the region and  Sawang Dean Din and this relatively nearby village were not as remote as many other sites in Isaan.
As I begin to stitch stories together more and more of a history of Isaan comes together brave men, heroes, strong monks and a hardworking  comes together.
In one article I read that that were ten camps in Sakon Nakhon, here, in Monument remembers war heroes  I read ten in the Northeast,Isaan. I visited Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University where I was helped by a couple professors there who have been helpful and we found the map presented here. Click on it to view full size. The map shows 6 camps in Sakon Nakhon to include Tad Phu Wong camp in Waritchaphum district, where a small airstrip was said to be built to receive American supplies which adds to the number of airstrips I have discovered. The Na Ku, Kalasin airstrip is in the lower right side of the map. And the map does not include the Tieng Sirikhan cave 30 kilometers from Sakon Nakhon.Anyhow research moves on, with as many new questions as answers. I hope soon to have all the Sakon Nakhon camps mapped, photographed and listed. Stay tuned…
