From Tom’s Desk, Back to Thailand, DJI Spark and More

I’m still ticking and heading back to Thailand for 3 months after a week stop in England. I’m really happy with the DJI Spark drone, which I’ve purchased and have started the Google+ album DJI Spark,Florida,Thailand and the World which I will continue to update in Isaan and forward. It’s easy to set up and get in the air and does a good quality video or still. The problems flying in Florida are the numbers of restricted areas and High Voltage Transmission lines that bugger signals. Another thing has been the lack of informative videos posted to YouTube. Earlier DJI drones were considered more “professional” while the Spark was to my mind, ,mistakenly advertised as a “selfie drone”. The video posted here is 4K. Hope to see y’all soon.

Scientology, Clearwater, Florida, and the Seperation of Church and State

I wonder what would happen if a local Catholic Bishop, or senior Jewish Rabbi were part of these headlines.
Clearwater Council defends meetings with Church of Scientology
or
Editorial: Clearwater officials should not surrender to Church of Scientology

Scientology (look at wixipedia, or elsewhere is big, buildingwise in Los Angeles, Claifornia it is HUGE relative to the population. Downtown Clearwater is a ghost town. There is no shortage of empty buildings.

Thursby House, Blue Spring State Park, Orange City, Florida

imageI guess the natives might not have been to pleased with the site selection of the house. You can read more about paranormal activities at Blue Springs. All in all if you are near Orlando and want a break from the big amusement  parks this might be a great  alternative.

From Tom’s Desk, Social Media seems quite Antisocial, and More

googlemapsThe more I look at social media the more aggresive perople seem to become. Over the years I have shared, retweeted or whatever, articles I found interesting in some way. In no case to I only share items I agree with, simply things that might be of some interest. Lately more and more people take umbrage at things they disagree with. More and nore travel stories appear that have no similarity to the subject matter on the ground. More places are improperly located on maps. And more and more foodies don’t seem to have a clue about the food they are talking about. I do though take pride in that fact that my photos in Google Maps have had  more than 5,000,000 views, helping people see what is actually at a location. And I have been spending quite a bit of time corrcting errors in Google Maps, mostly in Northeast Thailand, but in the U.S. as well

Foodporn at Long Phung, Vietnamese Restaurant, Pinellas Park, Florida

goi cuonokay this restaurant has the greatest assortment of Vietnamese food I have seen here in the States. Open the album take a look at the scanned menu pages that I’ve listed. The food is authentic Vietnamese. and although I have only been in there a few times I have not seen another Westerner, but the place is full of Vietnamese people from the moment it from the moment it opens. The staff is polite and prompt and the servings are more than adequate. If you are in the area and want to expand your Vietnamese food experience beyond pho this is the place to go.

Pho Queen, Vietnamese Restaurant, Clearwater, Florida, Revisit

pqyou can look at my first impression of the Pho Queen, Clearwater , their menu is there as well. Just follow the link.
I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, a bowl I have been revisiting at a number of Vietnemese places down in Pinellas Park, and area where the are bunches of Vietnemese folk to fill those establishments. Plenty of Thais and Laos also prefer the Vietnamese food to the stuff sold in the pseudo Thai places.

Dunedin, Florida, Downtown Market

imageThe Dunedin, Florida, Downtown Market takes place from 0900 to 1400 Fridays and Saturdays. The town’s  downtown area is shady and pleasant, unlike nearby Clearwater’s concrete and empty shops. Parking is free in Dunedin, once again unlike Clearwater, whete one must pay, in a town that should be encouraging visitors. there is a wide variety of products available, and shady places to sit and enjoy the music and a cold drink, or even a meal.
